Abstract

The hierarchical priesthood is not the personal grace of a man who has taken holy orders, but it has a charismatic character; so by its very nature it is destined to serve others, to serve God’s people who fulfill their religious tasks. From the moment of taking the holy orders the priest’s whole existence is directed to a voluntary service to the universal and local Church. The priestly vocation that as its aim has a particular care for redemption of the self and of others is also called charisma. The priests-martyrs of World War II period from the Lublin district – Blessed Bishop Władysław Góral, Blessed Rev. Kazimierz Gostyński, Blessed Rev Stanisław Mysakowski, Blessed Rev Zygmunt Pisarski and Blessed Rev. Antoni Zawistowski loyally fulfilled their duties of serving God and the neighbour, even in extermination camps. Along with the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that they offered – as far as it was possible for them – secretly even in concentration camps, they made a sacrifice of their own lives for the loyalty to Christ, His Church and their Homeland.
