Streszczenie:
The death of Henryk Sienkiewicz in Vevey in Switzerland on 15 November 1916 had farreaching repercussions on Polish land. Apart from the tragedy of the Polish nation tom by the conquerors and sufferings caused by the World War there was the pain resulting from the loss of the most outstanding Polish writer, the Nobel prize winner in 1905. In the sermons delivered during numerous requiem masses the life and literary achievements of Henryk Sienkiewicz were mentioned. The article analyses one of such sermons delivered by Rev. Józef Rokoszny in Radom entitled Mowa na nabożeństwie żałobnym za spokój duszy Henryka Sienkiewicza. In a beautiful combination of words the author included a lot of precious thoughts “to raise the compatriots’ spirits”.
