Abstract:
The author takes up one the most important element of the development of personality so called „self-concept”. The article is devided into three parts in which such problems are discussed: genesis and structure, function of „self-concept” in the development of personality, features of „self-concept” in relation to affirmative development. The following factors are distinguished in genesis of „self-concept”: perception of the stimulates coming from one’s own body, influence coming from significant persons, identifications, comparison with others, self-reflection. There are such elements distinguished by psychology in the structure of „self-concept”; real-self-concept (what I am), ideal-self-concept (what I would like to be). From affirmative development point of view the „self-concept” should possess the following features; the „self-concept” should be: permanent, coherent, adequate that is to say realistic.
