Abstract

The purpose of the essay is to study the theological meaning of the verses Gen. 49, 3-17. 19-27. The conducted research shows that they contain lively, numbered among the crucial ones, historio-salutary ideas, including the Messianic ones. Their leading theological message, seen in its general outline by looking at it through the closest literary context of the verses (I), finds its detailed meaning, which is deepened, when one looks into its structure (II), and finally in its content (III). It can be formulated as follows: – owing to God’s Providence the once separate tribal societies unified into a monolithic community of the people of Jhwh, however, keeping its individuality, – the individuality is expressed in, among others, each member of Israel having a mission to accomplish, a mission given to him by God himself; – Juda’s vocation appears exceptional, when viewed against other ones, as it remains in direct relation with realizing God's plan of salvation; – the aim of the plan is removing the sin and its results as well as introducing universal peace and happiness.
