Klasztor karmelitanek dawnej obserwy jest przykładem średniowiecznego zakonu, który zaistniał w potrydenckiej rzeczywistości we Lwowie. Powstał samorodnie, czyli wedle metody średniowiecznej. Najpierw był wspólnotą tercjarską, a następnie po sześciu latach w 1638 r. przyjął status konwentu mniszek. Do klasztoru wstępowały zarówno szlachcianki, jak i mieszczanki. Jego dzieje wpisywały się w staropolskie sposoby prowadzenia żeńskiego życia zakonnego. Był to też średniozamożny klasztor typowo miejski. Wspólnota tego klasztoru była stosunkowo liczna. Kres klasztorowi położyła kasata zakonów kontemplacyjnych na terenie cesarstwa austriackiego zarządzona przez Józefa II w 1782 r.
The Monastery of the Carmelite nuns of the old observatory is an example of a medieval order that existed in the post-Tridentine reality in Lviv. It was created spontaneously, i.e. according to the medieval method. First, it was a tertiary community, and then after six years in 1638 it assumed the status of a convent of nuns. Both noblewomen and townspeople entered the monastery. Its history was in line with the old Polish ways of leading female religious life. It was also a middle-class, typically urban monastery. The community of this monastery was relatively large. The end of the monastery was put by the dissolution of contemplative orders in the Austrian Empire ordered by Joseph II in 1782.
