Społeczno-kulturowe aspekty nowego ateizmu

Abstract

Przedstawiona przez nowych ateistów radykalnie negatywna ocena wpływu religii (w tym chrześcijaństwa) na rzeczywistość społeczną, opiera się przede wszystkim na skrajnie zafałszowanym obrazie Boga i człowieka. Bóg Dawkinsa, Hitchensa czy Onffay’a na pewno nie jest Bogiem Biblii. Ateistyczny humanizm nowych ateistów powiela wszystkie błędy ateizmu dziewiętnastowiecznego i grozi podobną degradacją człowieka oraz życia społecznego, jaką przyniosły ideologie bazujące na Marksie czy Nietzschem. W pismach nowych ateistów razi też jednostronna interpretacja historii i współczesności, w której często bezzasadnie obciąża się religię odpowiedzialnością za wielkie zło, a przemilcza lub usprawiedliwia tragiczne skutki ideologii bazujących na ateizmie. Nowi ateiści nie kryją, że ich praca ma nie tyle akademicki sens, ile raczej służy faktycznej przemianie społecznej. Społeczne implikacje nowego ateizmu, przedstawione w artykule, pokazują, że w ujęciu nowych ateistów, główna granica sporu cywilizacyjnego nie przebiega już między islamem a chrześcijaństwem, Zachodem a Wschodem czy bogatą Północą a biednym Południem, ale właśnie między światem religijnym a światem „wyzwolonym” z religii. Mimo swej merytorycznej i metodologicznej słabości, wielu uproszczeń i przekłamań, nowy ateizm pozostaje – choćby ze względu na swą popularność i zasięg oddziaływania – bardzo poważnym wyzwaniem dla chrześcijan, także na polu oddziaływania na kulturę i życie społeczne.

Radically negative assessment of the influence of religion (including Christianity) on the social reality presented by the new atheists is primarily based on the extremely distorted image of God and human. God of Dawkins, Hitchens or Onfray is certainly not the God of the Bible. Atheistic humanism of the new atheists duplicates all the errors of nineteenth century atheism. It creates danger of degradation of human and social life similar to the one that ideologies based on Marx or Nietzsche brought. In the writings of the new atheists one-sided interpretation of the history and the present times, in which religion is often wrongly considered as responsible for great evil while tragic consequences of an ideology based on atheism are concealed or justified, might be outrageous. The new atheists do not suppress that their work is not so much theoretical but contributes to the real social change. Social implications of the new atheism presented in the article point out that in the opinion of the new atheists the main border of the civilization dispute no longer runs between Islam and Christianity, the West and the East and the rich North and the poor South, but just between the religious world and the „liberated” world deprived of religion. Despite its technical and methodological weaknesses, many simplifications and distortions, the new atheism remains – at least because of its popularity and range of influence – very serious challenge to Christians, also in the field of impact on culture and social life.
