dc.description.abstract The prohocy of lsaiah (Is 7,14). Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son) has been the subject of analisis to this day. It has been the subject of such analisis because of the person of the Messiah and his mother. In the first part of this article, we will deal with the first section of the prophecy taking into account the person of the Messiah's mother who is designated by the special title "ALMAH". This term does not mean a "married woman" but always a young marriageable girl. With this designation Izaiah emphasises the mother of the "EMMANUEL" as being very young and a virgin who was so to remain before and after the birth of her son. This certainly something unusual. And so describing her with such marvelous characterization, the prophet feels that she will be an unusual person. So, in the word "ALMAH" we are forced to conclude that she is to be identified with the Blessed Virgin Mary. From such an unusual mother was born an unusual son. This son will be called by his mother "EMMANUEL" or "God-with-Us". No earthly king had born this name nor ever claimed it. The special prerogative of the divine maternity of Mary was given to her by God Himself and does not terminate with the death of her son. For the church, the Mystical Body of Christ, and for all its members, Mary plays the role of Mother of the Church and our Mother. en
